Crochet Mama

What do your parents do for a living?

This is a picture of my family. My brothers, sister and my mom, standing in her white dress glowing on her wedding day.

My mom has always been an artist. For as long as I can remember she was always painting, crocheting or just decorating. She lives, eats and breathes art. In 2009 she married a man that supports her in every way possible with her passion. It helps that he's an artist as well. He's a wonderful painter & musician.

I have to admit her crocheting skills are amazing. She works without patterns. All her designs are originals. She works from home and travels to various places doing craft shows. She is constantly getting compliments on her work.

I developed my passion for crocheting from her but I still have a long way before I can do anything remotely as beautiful as the clothing that she makes.

Cheer Bear

Who's your favorite Care Bear?

Did you know that items from the 1980s are now considered vintage? How does that make you feel? I grew up in the 1980s and graduated in the 1990s so for me its a little disturbing.

Why are the Care Bears considered vintage? Maybe because they have been around since the 1980s! According to my kids, that was a long, long time ago!

I can't remember for sure how old I was when I received my first Care Bear. But I have always had a soft spot for Cheer Bear. Maybe it was the rainbow stomach, or the fact that it was a pink bear? I just loved it.

A bear that was happy and perky, who helped other cheer up when they were having a difficult day! Now how can you not love something like that.

My Last Day

If you only had 24 hours to live, what would you want to do?

I love the beach. I find nothing more relaxing than sitting on the sand listing to the waves of the ocean. Its so calming and soothing.

If I had one day left to live, I would pack my family up and spend the day at the beach. Just that simple. I would want to spend the day with the people that mean the most to me.

We must remember that tomorrow is not guaranteed. So live each day to the fullest. Live the life you've dreamed. Live a life of love.

No One Said It Would Be Easy

At the beginning of this month I set off to challenge myself to blog on a regular basis. One of my major issues is writers block. So I compiled a list of random topics.

I was excited as were the wonderful blog that signed up to join me in the 30 day blog challenge.

Well as you can tell I haven't been very diligent on posting daily. I chalk it up to my lack of time management and focus! I really don't have a good excuse. Hey, it wouldn't be called a challenge if it was easy!

I am not giving up yet. I can still do it. I just need to stay focus! So stay tuned to some awesome blog posts. Feel free to call me out if I am not sticking to the plan. We all need accountability, right?

In the meantime feel free to visit some of these lovely blogs and encourage them to continue their 30 day blog challenge.

Fluent In One And A Half Languages

How many languages can you speak?

I was born in South Bronx, New York to Puerto Rican parents. When I was growing up everyone around me spoke Spanish: our family, friends, people in the neighborhood, everyone. It was normal for us.

Then when I was nine years old we moved to Ohio. Well lets just say it was a big culture shock. I can honestly say I can count on one hand the number of Hispanics I went to school with growing up, not counting family. Our family fell out of the habit of speaking Spanish on an everyday basis. By the time I reached high school I could barely scrap a few words together to form an understandable sentence. This is even after three years of Spanish class. Unbelievable right?!

So to the answer the question I would say I am fluent in one and a half language. Weird I know. I speak English fluently and I can understand Spanish almost completely. But for the life of me I cannot get my mouth to speak the words that form in my head. I'm not sure what my problem is. So at the most I speak Spanglish. I start with some Spanish words and throw in a few English ones to complete my sentence! My husband is amazed at how I could sit and have a long conversations with my Abuela. She will talk to me in Spanish and I will respond in English. Hey it works.

I do feel as if I am losing a bit of my heritage/culture since I don't speak fluent Spanish and I didn't teach it to my kids. I have told my husband that I want us as a family to work on learning Spanish next year - as part of our New Years goals. I think it would be good for us as a family. So we'll see how it will all work out.

How about you? How many languages do you speak?

At The End Of The Day

Day 1 - A photo of yourself and a description of how your day was

How was my day? Let's see it's almost ten o'clock at night and I am just now getting an opportunity to write this blog. I made it home, got everyone fed and off to bed. Its been a long day! Work was challenging as usual but I won't bore you with the details.

The highlight of my day was rushing home to watch my oldest play in her volleyball game. When I get there I was a little surprised to see that the building was dark. As I made my way to the gym I realized the electricity was out and here I thought they were just doing their part to conserve energy!

After a half hour of darkness the lights finally came back on and the games began. This is my daughter's first year playing high school sports and we are so very excited for her to have this opportunity. She is very passionate about volleyball and enjoys playing it. I love cheering for her and her team from the side line. And I have to be there on days like today when her team just couldn't pull off the win.

This evening games presented a lot of challenges for her and I. Everything from the way the team performed to the lack of communication from the coaches. Although things didn't go the way we would have liked I wouldn't have wanted to spend my evening any other way.

Me and my beautiful daughter

I would love to hear about your day...

September 30 Day Blog Challenge

I love blogging. Or at least love the idea of blogging. I gather my laptop, get comfy at my desk, go to blogger, click new post... and nothing. When this happens I go searching the internet for motivation. I end up killing hours of my time looking at pictures, shopping or just stumbling!

I decided its time to get focused and blog more consistently. My biggest obstacle is deciding on a topic. So I spent some time compiling a long list of random topics. Some are personal and some are business related - either way they are a way to break writer's block and get use to writing.

I thought it would be fun to share this challenge with you! At the end of this blog I will post the first 30 topics/questions. While some of them seem as if they could be answered in one or two words this is where you can be creative, tell a story, post a picture or video. Now I know life gets in the way so we won't beat ourselves up if we don't make it everyday but the goal is to try! If you are interested sign up below and leave a comment.

Be sure to come back and see my daily post. I will include a place for you to submit your daily blog entries to share with me and my readers!
